"A fascinating read" - first feedback from Twitter
My latest ebook was released last night, after five years in the making. It is quite simply, the story of Japan's ancient national sport of sumo through the eyes of the wrestlers themselves. This is the first-time that such a wrestler-focused book has been published, providing the clearest illustration yet of how sumo wrestlers, and their coaches, view the world. From the novices waiting hand and foot on superiors to the grand champions who theoretically have it all, everyone has a story to tell. Find out more by clicking the picture.
Dispensing with the stale approach of standard sumo books, I bring the ancient discipline of sumo to life like never before – through the eyes of the very wrestlers who make it. Gone are the days when sumo textbooks are 20 years out of date. For the most recent, exciting and wrestler-focused take on a mysterious sport – including fresh analysis of the 2011 match-fixing scandal – look no further than here.

From the Heart of Gould...

Chris with Amateur Sumo Champion Koichi Kato
Born to a British father and a Polish mother in 1983, writer Chris Gould has forever had two cultures running through his veins. It was little surprise, then, that I took interest in other cultures from an early age, spent an extensive period of time in France and now make my living in Japan. On the way, I've developed a strong interest in - among other things - Japanese sumo wrestling, French cinema, Polish literature, European travel and American popular culture. A passionate writer who contributes to numerous publications both inside and outside Japan, here is the place where I wish to share my love of other cultures with you - from the heart of Gould.
I used to write lots of stuff here, but actually there's no need. The message is simple. I hope you find some fun on this site. And if you do, I hope you check out my work some more. Happy surfing!
